What to Consider Before Moving to Dubai

Commute, schools, healthcare, transportation, and ownership costs — before making a residence decision.

Start from lifestyle, not from a district

The most common relocation mistake is picking a district based on a marketing image and discovering the daily commute, school run or lifestyle fit does not work.

Map your household's real weekly routine — office, schools, gym, faith, social — before you shortlist neighborhoods.

Commute reality and transportation

Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road are Dubai's arterial highways and materially congest at peak hours. A 15-km trip can take 20 minutes off-peak and 60+ minutes at peak.

The metro serves specific corridors well (Marina, Downtown, DIFC, Deira). If the household will not drive, proximity to a metro station is a hard constraint.

Schools

KHDA regulates and rates private schools annually. Curriculum choice is broad: British, American, IB, French, Indian, German and others.

Popular Outstanding-rated schools have waitlists — start applications 9–12 months in advance, and factor tuition (AED 30k–120k+ per child per year) into any relocation math.

Healthcare and insurance

Health insurance is mandatory for residents. Employer-provided plans vary widely in network and coverage — review the annex before accepting an offer.

Dubai has strong private healthcare capacity. Confirm which facilities are in-network for your plan and whether maternity, chronic conditions or specialist care are covered adequately.

Ownership vs. renting in year one

Many relocators overweight the buy decision in year one. Renting for 12 months lets you validate the neighborhood, commute and schools before locking capital into a specific property.
